Sashing needed (I think)

I laid out all my SewConnected 3 blocks on the patio and I definitely think I'm going to have to use sashing.
This is w-a-a-a-y to busy.

Any suggestions?

  1. Yes, I think that sashing would be a great idea! Not too sure what color you should use though. Sorry not too much help, I guess.

  2. Yes, I agree, sashing is needed. How about the chocolate brown, picking out the brown in the block fabrics?

  3. I was going to suggest one of the whites, or the brown would be great! Lovely fabrics!

  5. a chocolate would bring out the chocolate colors that you have which are more in the middle of the blocks, that would be nice - is this a child size quilt? if it is no sashing is ok too.

  6. Boy, that's a tough one. I'd go into the store and just lay those blocks on top of fabrics until you find something you like!

  7. the chocolate colour seems the most obvious choice but what about a pale blue or aqua--or maybe a mustard colour?

  8. Sashing would really make these blocks pop and dance. I think red or white would make this project nice and bright, but chocolate would be great too, making it a little warmer feeling. Looks like fun!

  9. I’m afraid sashing will take away the modern feel to the quilt, unless you make the sashing really wide.

I have this picture in mind. You could lay out (or pin) the blocks on a big sheet op solid black, white or aqua fabric and see how it looks when they kind of float!

Well, I’m curious what you come up with!

  11. No, no - nothing more - be a true artist and know when your work is done. Please just bind in brown maybe!

  12. I personally love it just the way it is. I wouldn't use the sashing. It's gorgeous.

  13. Maybe some of that pretty soft green that is in panache? Just a thought, that color might make it more...restfull. I never know for sure until I see the blocks close to it. Maybe it would work, maybe it wouldn't. Can't wait to see what you do.

  15. No sashing is needed. I love it just the way it is.

  17. Safe is chocolate brown or white, which would look beautiful. How about picking up that bluish aqua in (that's in the light print) as a solid sashing?

  18. I love it just the way it is--nothing more.

  19. Chocolate brown would be my pick too.

  20. If your goal is to calm it down, then I'd vote for white. However, chocolate or red would work to calm the eye, but keep the pizazz!

  21. I think it's pretty awesome just like it is, but if I were to add sashing, I'd definitely go with the brown.

  22. I think with it being wonky, sashing will throw off that quality. I like it the way it is.

But if you are set on sashing, I would definitely go with the brown dots.

  23. I think sashing and I also think the brown would be great.

  24. The refrain from that old song pops into mind: I love you just the way you are!!

  25. Solid -- white, light green, maybe brown.

  26. I like it as is... Wild and wonderful!

  27. NO sashing it is PERFECT as it is....... I wouldn't even add any borders, just bind it with the brown. Then send it to me. I would LOVE it!!!!! LOL!
    Love this color combo!

  28. I've only read a few comments but I'm definitely in the NO sashing group! Although it would be spectacular either way. It looks fabulous the way it is. Maybe you should make two! ;o) In all your spare time that is.

  29. I like it the way that it is, but it's your quilt.. and if you think it needs sashing, then I would vote with the chocolate brown people. I think.

I can also see it looking lovely with something that matches that light green, or with a sort of natural off-white linen fabric.

  31. You need sashing to rest the eyes. It's too busy as it is. A dark chocolate border around all the squares will calm it down and make the colors pop.

  32. oh, I think it's going to look fabulous! Like many others, I think solid brown sashing would look great!

  33. I don't think it needs it, but a chocolate sashing would look lovely and dramatic. Or maybe even more of a sand color-- that would be much softer/quieter?

  34. I would sash them "wonky" style in white so they appear as they are randomly laid out on top of a white piece of fabric. Film in the Fridge blog has a number of quilts done this way. I think this would allow the eye to rest and show off the wonkiness of the log cabins.

    Love the blocks!!

  35. i think chocolate sashing is a good option. it doesn't look like any chocolate print is on the perimeter of the blocks, so it would allow the blocks to pop.

  36. I think it is gorgeous and needs no sashing at all, though if you think you must then it had better be a wonky one. I love it as it is!!

  37. I'd add the sashing, to separate the blocks and make them pop. I like the light green that's in some of the blocks. On the other hand, the blocks are gorgeous, so whatever you do with them, the quilt will be beautiful.

  38. i LOVE the look of it as is ... i say NO sashing!

  39. Nice blocks. Agree that sashing could help. My suggestion is to use a white sashing that matches the Panache white. It will give some definition to the blocks, and tone down the reds and prevalent brown print so can see the block design.

  40. I say sash it. I would sash it with a small white first then mustard.
