Freezer Paper Foundation Piecing Tutorial

It was quite a setup.
Creating a tutorial
I like freezer paper foundation piecing more than traditional paper piecing mostly because you use MUCH less fabric this way. I don't like wasting fabric. With the traditional method there's a lot of guessing involved so you have to cut your fabric much larger than necessary just to be safe.
There are 40 photographs in the tutorial, so I created a separate web page just for it.

You can link to it over here. (Our server is a little slow today, so please be patient if it takes a while to load.)

I've also added a "Tutorials" section in the sidebar because I think I have a couple more up my sleeve.

I'd be really, really grateful if you could give me some feedback should you decide to try this out.

  1. How funny! I found a quilt belonging to my great-grandmother and couldn't figure out the pattern. And then today I found the block on your other site and was wishing I knew more about this method. Perfect timing for me. I'm picking up the freezer paper this evening. Thanks so much for all the work you put into this.

  7. I have done a paperpieceing
before and have not really thought that i wasted that much fabric... but what i do like about the way you do it is that you won't have to go back and tire off all the paper when you get done.
that is always such a mess and just furstrating to do.
    thanks!!

  9. Thanks for the tutorial Anina. This is great. I love to paperpiece but hate the waste of fabric so I prefer the freezer paper method. I'm so happy I bought a whole roll of it when I visited Portland last year since they don't sell it here.

  12. It will take me 10 times of reading this for it to sink in but I want to try it. How do you have time to put this together and do those Dear Jane blocks and the whole rainbow thing...I'm amazed.

  13. Very thorough! I have not tried your method of folding back the freezer paper. I think this will save lots of time tearing off the paper, as well as make the paper reusable. Thanks for the tutorial!

  21. Thanks, Anina. I hate using tearaway because it distorts the stitches, but I LOVE this and you can reuse the freezer paper - so much easier, all round!
